We are not a medical provider and we do not deliver clinical treatment. When you share health information with us so that we can help you find care, we treat that information with the same level of confidentiality required by applicable law.
About Long Island Addiction Resources: Confidential Referral Service
We maintain privacy and security programs designed to comply with United States privacy and security requirements that may apply to the information we handle, including:
- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996, as amended, and its implementing regulations (HIPAA) when we act as a covered entity or business associate
- Confidentiality of Substance Use Disorder Patient Records, 42 CFR Part 2, when applicable
- Federal and New York privacy, consumer protection, and data security laws, including the New York SHIELD Act security safeguards
- Telephone Consumer Protection Act for call and text consent practices
- Other laws that may apply based on how you interact with our services
When HIPAA or 42 CFR Part 2 applies to your information, we will only use and disclose it as permitted or required by those laws.

- Protected Health Information or PHI means information that identifies you and relates to your past, present, or future physical or mental health or condition, the provision of health care to you, or payment for that care.

- A medical emergency requires disclosure to medical personnel
- The disclosure is for qualified audit, evaluation, or approved research as permitted by law
Violations of 42 CFR Part 2 are a crime and can be reported to the appropriate authorities. See 42 U.S.C. 290dd-2 and 42 CFR Part 2.
How we share information
We may share information as follows, consistent with applicable law:
- Among our personnel who need the information to assist you with referrals, benefits checks, or customer support
- With business associates and service providers that perform services for us under written agreements that require confidentiality and security safeguards and adherence to 42 CFR Part 2 when applicable
- With treatment providers you ask us to contact or to whom you ask us to send your information
- With law enforcement or government authorities if required by law, to respond to valid legal process, to address suspected or actual unlawful activity or threats to safety, or to report suspected child abuse or neglect as required by state law
- In a medical emergency to qualified medical personnel when permitted by law
- For audits, accreditation, licensing, or evaluation activities as permitted by law
- With the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services when required to demonstrate compliance with HIPAA
We do not disclose original patient records for civil or criminal proceedings arising from a child abuse or neglect report without required consent.
